Avocados have a unique nutrient and bioactive profile that appears to play an important role in reducing Oxidized LDL-C (Bad Cholesterol).

One medium avocado (135g) per day with a moderate fat, heart-healthy diet decreased oxidized LDL-C.

Three groups, divided into,
Low Fat (24% Calories from fat).
Moderate Fat (34% Calories from fat) with one avocado.
Moderate Fat (34% Calories from fat); matched fatty acid profile of an avocado.

The common question that arises with this type of studies is LDL lowering benefit purely due to its fatty acid profile, or is there something unique about avocado?
LDL-C lowering effect of avocados doesn’t seem to be purely due to its fatty acid profile since the other moderate-fat group that matched avocado fatty acid profile didn’t produce the same effect. Avocados seem to have a unique nutrient and bioactive profile that appears to play an important role in reducing LDL oxidation.
